Just finished the collection of birds but as I’m looking at them even now, I can’t help thinking there will be more…maybe an eagle or a crow. Will see. I have really enjoyed working with pen and ink. It’s so close to the art of writing – the same level of dexterity, use of muscle and focus. Painting uses a different muscle I think and I’m still working on that. I think the Robin is my favourite. I’m not a bird enthusiast, I don’t watch birds or talk about them. I do listen to them in my garden! But I’ve never paid attention to the body, the symmetry, the eyes, the way the wings are structured, until I picked up the pen during the art course to draw the raven. It’s incredibly satisfying to see the picture emerge from a basic sketch to the final piece and I think I have found my niche.
