I wanted to study Art at school but it wasn’t the done thing in our household to ‘waste time on such futile subjects.’ So, I guess the creative in me translated herself in poetry. Art was and still is my first love so it wasn’t easy, so late in life when I’m almost 50, to pick up from where I had left.

My sketch, ‘Raven’, exhibited at the BMI Birmingham after completing an Art course. Thank you to Peter Tinkler for his support and encouragement over the weeks.
This piece of work came very naturally to me, like a poem that just emerges from your sleep as you wake up and you rush to write it down. I think I like the feel of ink on paper because writing is my primary and most crafted skill.

Blue Tit: something I completed after the course – I think I enjoy sketching birds…they all seem to have their own energy and personalities and it is akin to characterisation in the snapshots I create in my poems.
And it helps me to filter the mind and relax. Theres a deep meditative quality in art that prepares me for more writing.
